Effects of Climate Change

These days, due to the rapid urbanization and the
indiscriminate industrialization, our environments have totally changed
compared to the past. No doubt the Earth is getting hot, and the effort to
protect glacier in the North Pole is being needed more and more. Especially,
climate change becomes a global issue, and it is severely threatening humanity
and ecological environment. In other words, climate change has a great impact
on surroundings, and it makes other critical problems. First of all, as
mentioned before, climate change like global warming, which represents an
extreme alternation, affects increasing natural disasters. Arctic ice, which
used to help Earth stay cool, is melting because of the global warming. According
to Handwerk(2004), the author of “Global Warming,” “Since 1978, Arctic sea ice
area has shrunk by some 9 percent per decade and has thinned as well.” It
points out that the phenomenon the glacier is melting, and it leads to
accelerating to increase sea level. Floods, cyclones, and other serious
problems will be occurred frequently because sea level is going much higher
than the past; therefore, humanity cannot be free from these ecological
catastrophes. Next, climate change has destroyed people’s lives, and it will also
ruin most of the human and nature. Nowadays, many people are suffering from
their reality that is continuously moving to other cities to escape from
natural calamities; in addition, the amount of them will rapidly be increased.
In the article “Environmental Refugees Unable to Return Home,” the author
Kakissis(2010) contends that “But with the prospect of worsening climate
conditions over the next few decades, experts on migration say tens of millions
more people in the developing world could be on the move because of natural
disasters.” Not only the developing countries but all of the world will face
climbing the amount of environmental refugees. It means alternation of climate
will devastate many parts of Earth, so people who have lost their hometown
should keep running away from the disasters. Lastly, climate change influences
the spread of epidemics. Due to the climate change, the average of temperature
is raising and many extraordinary scorching heat is being reported. Bugs and
bacteria can easily breed in hot weather; thus, climate change can lead to
growing the rate of death from epidemics. Moreover, these epidemics will be
hard to cure or diminish because the temperature is constantly going higher. In
conclusion, climate change has huge impacts on our life and surroundings;
therefore, it is the most important issue that humanity have to consider as a
top priority. All of the people have to make efforts to reduce the cause of
climate change, and they should know that once it accelerates, it is barely
possible to stop it or make it slow.
